Elizabeth Anne Montgomery, MD
Professor of Pathology
Vice Chair, Anatomic Pathology
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
Miami, FL

What is your current role?
I am a Professor of Pathology and Vice Chair of Anatomic Pathology and enjoy working with my colleagues at the University of Miami!

What is the best part of your occupation?
The best part of my occupation is the privilege of reviewing samples from so many patients.

How did you become interested in pathology?
I had no idea that pathology existed and then it was love at first slide in medical school. Of course, I attended medical school when dinosaurs ruled the earth so there was an actual pathology class with review of glass slides under lousy microscopes.

How did you become involved with the FSP?
I became involved in the FSP through the University of Miami who loves the FSP and pointed me to the society! Also my former Johns Hopkins colleague, Naziheh Assarzadegan raved about the FSP!

Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP
It's so wonderful to meet Florida colleagues, although that has been a bit limited since I arrived here in July 2020, with full COVID closures.

What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career?
Using new technology to enhance our skills in old technology

What are your hobbies outside of the office?
Outside of the office? What's that? I am the world's most boring person. The usual; running, reading, grandma duties!

What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
I can twinkle my nose and make the dishes wash themselves and make the vacuum cleaner run.

Is there anything I did not ask you that you would like to mention in this article?
I love my new life in Florida!
