The Florida Society of Pathologists hosted its Summer Pathology Conference on July 17-18, 2021 in Palm Beach at the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa. This was FSP’s first meeting back in-person after a long 16+ months due to the pandemic. The FSP welcomed over 110 attendees from all over the state of Florida and across the country as well as 20+ sponsors who graciously supported the FSP’s efforts to host the summer conference.
Esteemed faculty members included Christopher Crum, MD covering advancements in gynecologic pathology, Jason Hornick, MD covering vascular lesions and soft tissue tumors and Julia Hegert, MD who covered a timely lecture on the impact of COVID-19 and the organ systems from an autopsy perspective. FSP also welcomed Merce Jorda, MD, PhD, MBA, Professor and Chair at the University of Miami for a read slides session on GU pathology. There was an interactive and informative roundtable discussion on medical malpractice for the pathologist where Tim Allen, MD, JD, Rebekah Bernard, MD and Jim Zhai, MD shared their perspectives on how pathologists can respond to a malpractice issue and the importance of a multi-disciplinary team approach. Attendees were able to ask questions during the roundtable to gain insight from the roundtable leaders on this important yet often unspoken topic.
The FSP was also excited to welcome many new members to the meeting this year. We had several pathologists join the society over the weekend while attending the meeting and we are thrilled to welcome them to the FSP.
