What is your current role?
I am the CEO and President of Protean BioDiagnostics
 
What is the best part of your occupation? 
Having the opportunity to continue to learn about advances in science and medicine and be able to put these to use to help cancer patients.
 
How did you become interested in pathology?
I was always interested in science, biology and medicine. Pathology provided the optimal career to integrate these interests and also the opportunity to put them to practical use helping patients. 
 
How did you become involved with the FSP?  
It is important that pathologists support each other through joining and participating in professional societies such as FSP.
 
Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP.  
It provides opportunities for networking, education, and creating public awareness of the challenges and importance of pathology.
 
What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career?    
It is important that the central role of pathology in patient care be better recognized and supported with additional resources.  Pathology is key to the future of medicine but it is often forgotten and overlooked. Its essential pathologists continue to advocate for the specialty to other medical specialists, patients, payers, and government.

What are your hobbies outside of the office? 
Travel and photography. Recording podcasts visit the Cancer Informant!

What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
I have had many unusual careers and jobs including working with a sociobiologist capturing ground squirrels in Alberta, performing extensive forensic pathology work in Saskatchewan, and volunteering as an official scientific examiner for verifying miraculous medical events at Lourdes France. 

Is there anything I did not ask that you would like me to mention in this article?
What is the future of pathology: Pathology is in a new golden age with remarkable advances from science, informatics, AI and more. Pathologists should learn how to utilize these exciting new technologies to improve pathology services. Pathologists should also learn how to organize better to increase awareness and promote their specialty.
