What is your current role?
I am an Assistant Professor of Pathology at University of Central Florida (UCF). I am also the Medical Director of Pathology in UCF/Lake Nona Hospital. I have special interest in Hematopathology, Gynecological Pathology and Medical Education. My academic efforts are focused on developing and presenting pathology content. 

 What is the best part of your occupation? 
The best part of Pathology is being able to help patients. Pathologists are an important part of the patients interdisciplinary management team. I also enjoy teaching students and observers who rotate through our lab.

How did you become interested in pathology?
My interest in Pathology started during medical school where I got very interested in Pathology as a subject. Later during graduate education and medical training, I got more interested in molecular pathology especially cancer biology and molecular biomarkers.

How did you become involved with the FSP?  
I became involved with the FSP at the recommendation of my colleague Dr Diane Davey who highlighted to me the excellent opportunities available through FSP for educational and professional advancement.
 
Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP.  
There are actually many benefits. First, I am looking forward to doing some collaborative research projects with colleagues. Secondly, FSP's high quality educational material ensures that I keep updated with new classifications, genetics and markers of diseases.

What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career? 
During my career I would like to see more incorporation of Digital Imaging into our routine practice. I also hope to see streamlined incorporation of molecular diagnostics into our routine practice.

What are your hobbies outside of the office? 
My hobbies outside the office include watching professional soccer (especially the English Premier league and the UEFA champions league), running and traveling.

What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
I hold a second-degree black belt (Nidan) in Aikido, a Japanese martial art.
