Dr Thomas P. Wood, 1977 President of the Florida Society of Pathologists and President of the College of American Pathologists from 2001 to 2003, died February 15, 2016 in Tallahassee FL.
Dr. Wood began his career as a general practitioner in McComb, Mississippi, then trained in pathology at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. In 1967, he joined the Tallahassee, Florida pathology group now known as Ketchum, Wood & Burgert Pathology Associates and served as managing partner for many years. He also served as the Florida District 2 Medical Examiner, Chief of Staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and as the associate medical director for two local laboratories.
Tom Wood was a born leader, a “true Southern gentleman”, and a kind and engaging person to be around. He treated others with respect, and was skilled in the art of negotiation and compromise. Tom was civic minded and showed life long commitment in his church, the Rotary, and the Boy Scouts of America. He loved to travel, and was a devoted husband to his wife Nancy of over 50 years, and to his three sons, one daughter, and many grandchildren.
Great people have a lasting legacy. Tom Wood is one of those people whose memory will endure for years to come.
