FSP Endorses Rebecca L. Johnson, MD and Ronald Giffler, MD in upcoming election at FMA

 

FSP is proud to announce that it will endorse two of its members, Rebecca L. Johnson, MD as candidate for delegate for AMA House of Delegates and Ronald F. Giffler, MD as candidate for FMA Vice President. Elections will take place at the upcoming Florida Medical Association meeting taking place on July 29-31, 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

 


REBECCA L. JOHNSON, MD

Rebecca L. Johnson, MD is the Chief Executive Officer for the American Board of Pathology and a former Trustee, Treasurer, and President.  Dr. Johnson received her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and was named their 2010 Alumna of the Year.  She completed residency training at Hartford Hospital, CT and hematology fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health.   She is American Board of Pathology certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Hematology, and Immunopathology and is participating in the ABP Maintenance of Certification program.

Prior to her position with the ABP, Dr. Johnson was Chair of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories and Pathology Residency Program Director at Berkshire Health Systems, MA.   She is a past member and chair of the ACGME Pathology Residency Review Committee.  She was a delegate to the AMA for over twenty years and Chair of the Pathology Section Council.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the American Board of Medical Specialties.  She is an active member of many pathology organizations, including ASCP, CAP, USCAP, APC/PRODS, and FSP.


RONALD F. GIFFLER, MD

Ronald F. Giffler, MD is the President and CEO of FirstPath. He also serves as Medical Director of Laboratory Services for Broward Health, an award winning healthcare system in South Florida that encompasses multiple in-patient and out-patient facilities.

He received his medical degree and residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology from the Medical College of Virginia. This was followed by a fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, TX. Dr. Giffler is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He has been in practice in Broward County since 1984.

Dr. Giffler also holds a law degree from the University of Miami and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Giffler is also a former Florida HealthCare Risk Manager and has written and lectured extensively on risk management and medical-legal issues in defense of Florida Physicians.

Dr. Giffler is actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including The Florida Medical Association, The Florida Medical Association Foundation, The Professionals Resource Network (PRN), The Broward County Medical Association, and the College of American Pathologists.

Dr. Giffler currently serves as Treasurer of the Florida Medical Association. The FMA is the largest statewide physician organization in Florida with over 20,000 members. He is also Treasurer of the Professional Resource Network. The PRN is nationally recognized as one of the premier organizations providing assistance to a wide range of health care professionals. Dr. Giffler also serves as an Inspector in the Laboratory Accreditation Program of the College of American Pathologists.

Dr. Giffler is currently the Treasurer of the Florida Medical Foundation which drives the charitable activities of the Florida Medical Association. Dr. Giffler has been recognized for his unparalleled contributions to numerous community non-profit organizations including the Board of Directors for Women in Distress of Broward County.

Dr. Giffler served for many years as a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve until his retirement in 2015. He is a graduate of the Army's Command and General Staff College.
