Ethan Green, MD
PGY-2 Resident Physician
Anatomic & Clinical Pathology
University of South Florida | Morsani College of Medicine
What is your current role?
I'm currently a PGY-2 at USF, and one of the two FSP delegates from our program on the FSP Resident and Fellow Committee.
What is the best part of your occupation?
One of the best parts of being a pathologist is seeing all the cool cases! I feel like if you're in another specialty like IM you might see the cool and interesting things that come through your service, but pathology sees all the interesting cases from the whole hospital.
How did you become interested in pathology?
When I was a 4th year medical student, I did an EM rotation and stayed with a friend of family who is a pathologist. He invited me to come shadow him, and after shadowing him I changed around my schedule to get a path rotation at the last minute. After that rotation I ended up redoing my entire residency application!
How did you become involved with the FSP?
The USF residency program is very encouraging of its residents to participate in FSP. It's also a great way for the residents to all get together as a group in a professional setting.
Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP?
The networking, collaboration, and professional development are fantastic of course. FSP is also a great way for us to meet other residents from other programs in the state too!
What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career?
I would like to see greater recognition and representation in medical school curriculums, whether that's through lectures, interest groups, rotations, or anything else. I want more people to know how great a career in pathology can be.
What are your hobbies outside of the office?
Weightlifting, reading, travel, piano, and video games.
What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
My undergraduate degree is in Piano Performance, and I've been playing piano since I was 5 years old. I'm a classically trained concert pianist.
