What is your current role?
I am the Medical Director for Pathology and Laboratory Services at Broward Health. Also, I am currently President of FMA Services. This is the for-profit subsidiary of the FMA, dealing with for profits from vendor endorsed programs.
What is the best part of your occupation?
Providing opportunities for younger physicians and advancing their careers in Pathology.
How did you become interested in pathology?
I was always interested in laboratory activities.
How did you become involved with the FSP?
I believe every physician should belong to their state, county, and specialty societies.
Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP?
Advocacy for the practice of Pathology, especially working with the FMA on state specific issues and with the CAP for issues addressed at the Federal level. I also enjoy the excellent scientific presentations at our winter and summer meetings.
What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career?
Greater awareness of the field, by the general public and lawmakers.
What are your hobbies outside of the office?
I enjoy piano, antique automobiles, tropical palm trees and other plants, and stamp collecting.
What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
My home is within a palm tree nursery licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture.
Is there anything I did not ask that you would like to mention in this article?
As president of the Florida Medical Association, I worked with numerous county and specialty societies throughout the state. In my opinion the FSP is second to none in its member benefits and cooperation in advocacy efforts with the rest of organized medicine in Florida.
