Testing for RET: A Perspective for Pathologists

This program provides an overview of testing for RET alterations from the perspective of the pathologist,  including RET as an actionable biomarker in certain RET-driven cancers, and a closer look at testing methods for detecting RET fusions and RET point mutations. The presentation aims to discuss why and how to test for RET in appropriate patients.

  • Learn why to test for RET based on RET prevalence, clinical data, and guidelines
  • Examine how to test for RET alterations by comparing specific methods for detecting RET fusions and point mutations

About the Speaker:

Amir Behdad, MD is Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine in Hematology and Oncology and Director of Hematopathology Fellowship at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Director of Cancer Molecular Diagnostics at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He received his medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, Iran before completing his internship in General Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, a residency in Neurological Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis in Missouri; a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California; and fellowships in Hematopathology and Molecular Genetics Pathology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Behdad also received his MBA from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in Bloomington. He is board-certified in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology, and Molecular Genetics Pathology.
