What is your current role?
I am an Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
 
What is the best part of your occupation? 
I find fulfillment in ensuring that my diagnoses are accurate, as it allows me to contribute to providing patients with the best possible management.
 
How did you become interested in pathology?
In my second year of medical school in Puerto Rico, I took my first pathology course and was fascinated by the ability to study diseases through the examination of tissues both grossly and under the microscope. Moreover, I came to appreciate that our field plays a pivotal role in guiding medical treatment decisions, prognosis, and overall patient care.
 
How did you become involved with the FSP?  
Since my residency years at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, I have been actively involved with FSP. Over the years, there has consistently been encouragement to submit abstracts and actively participate in the meetings. Now, as an attending, I continue to promote and encourage my trainees to get involved with FSP as well.
 
Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP.  
The content of the meetings is excellent, and it also provides valuable opportunities for networking.
 
What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career? I hope to see ongoing advancements in the field of pathology, particularly in the development of more precise diagnostic tools that can help guide personalized treatment strategies.

What are your hobbies outside of the office? 
I enjoy listening to audiobooks, podcasts and working out.

What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
Despite being an introvert, for some reason, people often perceive me as the opposite.

Is there anything I did not ask that you would like me to mention in this article?Within our field, my primary focus includes head & neck pathology and cytopathology. I have cultivated a specific interest to the study of thyroid and salivary gland tumors, dedicating my efforts to gaining insights into these areas of pathology.
