 Charanjeet Singh, MD
Staff Pathologist AdventHealth Central Florida
Orlando, Florida

What is your current role?
I am currently a staff pathologist at AdventHealth Central Florida, with a specialty focus in gynecologic pathology and cytopathology.

What is the best part of your occupation?
The best part of my work is collaborating with highly trained and skilled colleagues who bring expertise from various disciplines of pathology. I enjoy seeing a wide range and complexity of cases while contributing to patient care as a part of a multidisciplinary team.

How did you become interested in pathology?
I often say that pathology chose me—it was a fortunate happenstance. After medical school, I joined St. George’s University in Grenada as an instructor, where I was selected to teach pathology. My interactions with visiting professors during that time sparked my interest and inspired me to pursue a residency in pathology.

How did you become involved with the FSP?
I became involved with FSP through colleagues who were active members and encouraged me to attend the society’s carefully curated sessions and discussions at various events.

Explain how you benefit from being a member of FSP?
Being part of FSP allows me to connect with fellow professionals, attend educational conferences, and stay current with developments in the field. I also appreciate that the society actively advocates for lab-based policies and fair reimbursement practices.

What would you like to see occur in the field of pathology (i.e., scientific advances, greater awareness of the field, etc.) during your career?
I would like to see pathologists play a more central role in clinical and oncologic decision-making. Greater awareness among clinicians of the nuances behind pathology reporting would enhance collaboration and patient care. I also hope that both gold-standard and emerging testing will be driven by pathologists rather than other specialties.

What are your hobbies outside of the office?
Running, hiking, traveling (to remote places), pottery and Indian classical music

What is something surprising that most people do not know about you?
I have written poetry in two languages and received a state-level award for one of my poems in India!

Is there anything we didn’t ask that you’d like included?
Thank you for choosing me to be in the spotlight! I like to think of myself as an introvert, though my colleagues insist that’s just my imagination and that I’m actually quite extroverted. Filling out this questionnaire was both fun and challenging!
