The results are in for the CAP 2019 Election.

FSP's delegates to the FMA, Dr. Harvey Feld, Dr. Antonio Martinez, and Dr. Patricia Moody McNab attended the Florida Medical Association 2019 Annual Meeting and House of Delegates on August 9-11 in Orlando, Florida to represent our membership and pathologists from the state of Florida.

This month we are featuring Qihui "Jim" Zhai, MD, FCAP. Dr. Zhai serves on the FSP Board of Directors and is currently President-Elect and Chair of the Education Committee. Dr. Zhai is running for the CAP Board of Governors during this election cycle beginning July 23rd, 2019.  We are proud to support his efforts joining CAP’s leadership. We are confident that Dr. Zhai is going to be a great asset to the missions of CAP. He will propel the members’ interests in education, career development, and advocacy. All CAP Members should have received a CAP ACTION ALERT last week requesting you to contact your senators and urge them to oppose the Lower Health Care Costs Act of 2019 (S. 1895). We strongly encourage FSP Members to TAKE ACTION now and respond to the alert sent by CAP using the customized letters sent by CAP to contact your local senators.

Welcome to this edition of the FSP member spotlight. Every month we will highlight a different FSP member who is doing exciting things in the field of pathology. This month we are featuring Ronald Giffler, MD, JD, FCAP. Dr. Giffler has been active member of the FSP since 2007 and is a regular FSP conference attendee.

The 2019 Florida legislative session has officially ended on Saturday, May 5th, a day later than originally scheduled due to delayed budget negotiations. The FSP had a great deal of issues we were working on, but altogether we came out unscathed this Session.

This month we are featuring Khaled Algashaamy, MD. Dr. Algashaamy was recently appointed in February as the Resident Liaison to the FSP Board of Directors. He is also the Chair of the Resident Committee and the Co-Chair of the Communications Committee.

This month we are featuring Vatsal P. Patel, MD. Dr. Patel was recently appointed in February as an At Large Member to the FSP Board of Directors after many years of supporting the FSP through attendance at the FSP educational conferences.

The Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future Commission released its final report on February 12, 2019 to the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board of Directors. The report included a set of recommendations and calls on ABMS boards to make continuing certification programs more meaningful, relevant and of value to key stakeholders.
